Full job description

Position Summary
The Sous Chef is responsible for preparing food accurately, safely, and efficiently during daily kitchen operations. This role supports all aspects of food service, including prep, service, cleaning, and food safety compliance. The Sous Chef plays a direct role in maintaining product quality, speed of service, and kitchen organization. This position works closely with Ology Foodlab’s Head Chef.

This is a fast-paced, physically active position that requires consistency, execution, and strong attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare menu items according to recipes, portion standards, and presentation guidelines
  • Assist with food prep
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations
  • Assist with opening, shift changes, and closing kitchen procedures
  • Be available to assist with shift coverage
  • Assist in inventory management
  • Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff and management during service
  • Support special events, pop-ups, and catering as needed

Qualifications

  • Prior kitchen, line cook, or food service experience preferred but not required
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional
  • Comfortable standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Able to work nights, weekends, and special events
  • Strong attention to cleanliness and organization
  • Basic knife skills and kitchen awareness

Preferred Experience

  • Short-order or high-volume kitchen experience
  • Food prep and batching experience
  • Food handling certification
  • Experience working in regulated food service environments

Schedule and Compensation

  • Part-time or full-time position
  • Schedule varies based on business needs
  • Pay based on experience
  • Tip compensation in addition to hourly wages
